Multi-channel Mythbusting – exploding the myth that “it’s all about the front end”
Andy Powell Director, Agile Commerce Consulting
Multi-channel and online retail fulfilment extends the supply chain to the consumer’s doorstep and beyond. Perfect order fulfilment is now a cornerstone of the customer experience and the overall “offer”. Consumers’ expectations have risen in regards to available fulfilment options, flexibility, timeliness, quality and visibility and they want this seamlessly, regardless of channel.
The combination of these forces is forging a re-invention of retail supply chain and fulfilment capability, an explosion in fulfilment mechanisms and huge interest in finding and deploying the right systems and service providers to deliver these new capabilities. The operational and systems requirements are complex, with many new systems and services vendors entering the market.
Andy will examine how the traditional supply chain model is breaking in the world of “the new retail” and explore the key systems and service provider capabilities required for “the new fulfilment”, to help make the right choices for your business.

Rocket Science that enables regulatory reform in the transport industry
Robert Heaton, Director, Management Consultant & Vice President SCLAA – VIC
Regulatory reform in the transport industry is long overdue and Minister Albanese's move to adopt a single registration model by 2013 is a welcome step forward. However, simply consolidating the state specific 'round disc' in the windscreen with a national round disc would leave many lost opportunities.
Of those opportunities, the industry's most favoured is a move towards Road User Pricing eg: the more roads you use the more you pay. The idea has merit and political support but the challenge is how to make it happen?
In his presentation, Robert Heaton will outline the most favoured approach utilising electronic chips and GIS positioning technology. Moreover, Robert will outline the knock-on benefits (and shortfalls) that might be derived from such an approach.
Before closing Robert will outline a recent program from the European Space Agency who have been tasked with exploring ways that space science can be used to benefit other industries and in that context, Robert will talk about a couple of examples related to transport showing clearly that rocket science can be used to enable regulatory reform in the transport industry.

The Agile Supply Chain: “Key lessons for the resource industry to manage growth sustainably”
|
Henry Brunekreef, Engagement Manager, Logiworx
It is widely established that the current Australian economy operates at two speeds, with the fastest speed driven by resource companies in general and mining companies specifically.
In this presentation, Henry will provide experience-based insights and recommendations for the Australian resource industry how to create an agile supply chain that is both able to fully benefit from the current high demand and souring commodity prices and to be ready to handle the inevitable point of market saturation with conditions the same as or worse than before the resources boom. Although the presentation will be mining centric, the lessons are also very much applicable to oil & gas companies.
In order to highlight the areas where proven Supply Chain concepts and practices could better enable resource companies to deal with vastly changing market conditions, the following framework will be used:
- Dominant customer buying behaviours and its integration in corporate strategy
- Network / asset infrastructure
- Process, procedure and policy
- Information and computer technology
- Organisation, performance metrics and KPIs
